Alberton RECORD and Food Lovers Market bring you the Tip of the Week

The Alberton RECORD, in corroboration with Food Lover’s Market at Mall @ Newmarket, is giving you a chance to win a R500 voucher redeemable at Food Lover’s Market at Mall @ Newmarket.

THE prickly pineapple with its waxy leaves is an irresistible tropical fruit. The short-stemmed plant takes an average of two years to produce a maximum of 200 fruits. Pineapples are a popular fruit used in various dishes and can be consumed fresh, cooked, juiced, or preserved.

Quinton Mostert, store manager at Food Lover’s Market at Mall @ Newmarket, give us helpful tips to keep pineapples fresh and tasty for longer. Quinton says when buying pineapples one should look out for a yellow base, green leaves at the crown and the fruit should also feel firm, proving that the pineapple is ripe. Pineapples are best stored at room temperature and, if necessary, refrigerate pineapples after two days to soften them. In addition, placing pineapples in the refrigerator extends the longevity of the pineapple.
