Avocados are renowned for their versatility and the pairing options are endless, from adding them to salads, sandwiches, wraps and even smoothies. They are also delicious when used for guacamole. Avocados are packed with countless health and nutritional benefits, including vision improvement, assisting your liver against damage, maintaining healthy skin and combating high cholesterol. They are also rich in anti-aging properties and anti-oxidants.
Quinton Mostert, store manager of Food Lover’s Market at Mall @ Newmarket, shares some tips and tricks on how to speed up the ripening process of avocados.
Place unripe avocados in a brown bag with a banana. Close the bag and store in a dry place with enough light for 18 to 24 hours.
To ripen avocados in ten minutes, tightly wrap unripe avocado in tin foil. Place the wrapped avocado in a baking tray into the oven, set the oven to approximately 100 degrees Celsius. Keep a close eye on it for 10 minutes.
