Wacky Wednesday: Gumtree Ads that will make you laugh

From the Gumtree Hall of Fame, here are some South African ads that will make you roll on the floor with laughter.

The internet is a weird, wonderful and wacky space to navigate especially when you’re trying to sell or buy items off sites like Gumtree.

The popular classifieds site requested some strange and hilariously bizarre ads for their Hall of Fame competition, here is a showcase of five of the wackiest submissions.

1. The case of quiddy stick

A person from Morningside in Durban had people in stitches after they advertised that they were getting rid of  their “Super Sexy, Super Fast Quidditch Stick” This Harry Potter fan also adds their reason for selling: “I have decided to invest a little more time in my love life, as that began to deteriorate since the first day my cheeks and Quiddy first met plus there seems to be quite a lot of air traffic in some parts and it’s not easy for an amateur to out maneuver various tomahawks and blackhawks.”

2. Missing: Pet Turtle

It’s not every day that a pet Turtle goes missing and gets a hilarious ad on Gumtree blaming the new Ninja Turtle movie for its disappearance. The person posts: “Our family pet turtle escaped with stealthy ninja quickness under the cover of darkness and an overlooked hole in the fence. Answers to the name Lightning.

3. The best motorcycle ad you’ve seen?

A person from Graaf-Reinet placed an ad to sell their motorcycle and the description is truly compelling. For example, the first few descriptions read:

Top Speed: 160km/h being towed by car

Brake System: Takkie between fork and front tyre

Average Gas usage: 0 liters per km but heavy on takkies

4. Parachute for sale

It can only be a Capetonian who would hilariously advertise the sale of a parachute by posting: “Used parachute for sale.  No strings attached.  Used only once.”

5. Oppikoppi dust anyone?

People will try to sell you anything on the internet. This very brief ad tries to sell dust gathered at the Oppikoppi Festival.

The ad continues: “After harvesting even more red dust from my inner ears, nostrils, hair and the bottom of my feet, I’m looking for a good home where the dust can be comfortable and respected. I’d suggest using it to recreate the magic of the weekend, create an ant farm, beach room or simply just to roll around in.”
