Tuesday Life Hack: 3 homemade ant traps for winter

Winter has arrived and if those ant colonies around your home are still growing, these life hacks are for you.

Insect life around the household is more prevalent in summer so why does it feel as if some of those ant colonies are planning to settle in for the long winter?

If you have a huge ant infestation around your home and are wondering what to do, we’ve got you covered. Say goodbye to having to lock away all traces of food because of the fear of ants around the house.

Here are the three ant traps:

1. Go the natural way

Take one teaspoon of dish soap, one teaspoon of cooking oil and 1/4 cup of water. Mix in a spray bottle. Spray on any soft-bodied insect that invades your house or garden: ants, earwigs, aphids, whiteflies, mealy bugs, etc.

2. A touch of Borax

You’ll need one cup of sugar, one tablespoon of Borax, cotton balls and a 1/4 cup of water. Mix it all together in a container or old jar lids and allow a steady stream of ants in and out. This is perfect especially if your issue tends to be in your kitchen cupboards.

3. Add some Peppermint

You will need a small spray bottle filled about 3/4 full with water. Add two tablespoons of witch hazel to the spray bottle. Then add 12 drops of peppermint oil and you’re on your way to ant freedom. Just spray the ants when they come visit and they won’t return.
