Oscars on Sunday, Liz Taylor’s Bday on Saturday

Here's a bit of retro Oscar gossip about Dame Elizabeth Taylor... 4 consecutive best actress Oscar nominations, 2 acting Oscars, 8 marriages and 7 husbands...

In 1961 Elizabeth Taylor wearing Christian Dior received her first Best Actress Oscar for Butterfield 8. It was her fourth consecutive best actress nomination. She attended the Oscars with her fourth husband, Eddie Fisher. She fainted back stage during the ceremony that took place six weeks after an emergency tracheotomy while filming Cleopatra. She left Fischer (previously married to Debbie Reynolds and father of Carrie Fischer who played Princes Leia in Star Wars) for her Cleopatra co-star Richard Burton who she married twice.

She had previously been nominated for Raintree County (1957) Cat On A Hot Tin Roof (with the delicious Paul Newman) and for Suddenly Last Summer.

In 1967 she won an Academy Award for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf with Richard Burton.

A furious kind of love

She married eight timesbut only her relationship with Richard Burton truly defined her.
