Volunteers needed for Alberton Victim Support

Due to the 24/7 service and support to the community the need has arisen to get more volunteers on board.

ALBERTON SAPS Victim Support Centre, based at the Alberton police station, is in the process of expanding and in need of volunteers.

The victim support volunteers, male and female, are dedicated residents from the community that offer up their time and skills at the Alberton SAPS Victim Support Centre. Due to the 24/7 service and support to the community the need has arisen to get more volunteers on board.

The role of the volunteer is to be there as support for the victims of crime, by defusing, debriefing, and providing emotional and practical support. In addition, the centre provides free trauma counselling for victims, including, but not limited to, rape, hijacking, armed robbery and domestic violence. We also assist victims as much as possible with referrals to the correct organisations to assist any individual should their need lie outside the scope of the Victim Support Centre or short-term trauma counselling.

All volunteers will receive upfront and ongoing training in all areas of defusing, debriefing, emotional and practical support, including advising victims on their rights and informing them of the process that will follow.

Volunteers need their own transport and a valid driver’s licence. Should you be interested in giving your time to a worthy cause join the Alberton SAPS Victim Support team. Contact Tammy on 083 923 1967 for more information.
