The Battle for Iron Maiden will see 28 bands performing at Rumours, to choose one for an opening slot at Iron Maiden’s Carnival City performance.

One band is still to be chosen to open for Iron Maiden in Johannesburg in May.

Iron Maiden is viewed as one of the most influential bands in the history of heavy metal and, your band can be there, performing in front of thousands of music fans. The Battle for Iron Maiden will see 28 bands performing at Rumours, to choose one for an opening slot at Iron Maiden’s Carnival City performance.

All alternative, rock and metal bands are welcome to enter this event which is taking place on Thursday nights in March and April leading up to the finals at the beginning of May. At each event, bands play four original compositions plus one Iron Maiden song. Bands will be judged on musicality, stage performance, crowd interaction and whether the band has the stage presence to open up for one of the most iconic heavy metal bands which has been creating musical waves over the past 40 years.

To enter, a band has to submit a 200 to 300 word essay outlining why they should be chosen to open for Iron Maiden. Please also include a link to the band’s music so the judges, if they like what they read, can listen to the band’s music. Bands have until the end of January to submit their essay. No late entries will be considered. Do not include MP3s or band photographs when submitting your entry.

The 28 bands to perform at Rumours for the Battle 4 Iron Maiden will be chosen from the best essays submitted. The Battle for Iron Maiden will be hosted by Barney Simon, who has been at the forefront of promoting alternative, rock and heavy metal over South Africa’s radio airwaves since the 1980s.
