Saturday, November 28, was an exciting day in Eden Park as the community staged a homecoming event for its Idols SA hero, Rhema Varrie, the humble lad who had the voting support of everyone in the area.

As the convoy cruised the streets, residents, young and old, stood on both sides of the road clapping and praising their young role model and hero.

The homecoming bash was held at Eden Park High School where people arrived in their hundreds. Rhema was praised by his teacher, Richard Carelse, the headmaster of Stoneridge Primary, EM Naude, headmaster of Eden Park High School and a dear friend, Brenda Senosi-Peterson from Cape Town.

When Rhema took the microphone, the crowd went into a frenzy. The humble hero with a passion for his community and who is also fighting drug abuse in the area, thanked everyone for their support and voting for him up to the end. He also gave special thanks to his family.

“I am so proud of Rhema. He is such a humble young man with talent. He is a real role model for our youth by showcasing what can be done when you channel your talents in the right direction. Rhema hates drugs and sets a good example for our youth, who I hope can and will refrain from abusing drugs and follow Rhema’s example,” said another proud teacher, Winnie Jordaan.
