*Support Paws in Motion on the corner of Du Plessis and Second Avenue on Saturdays, between 10:00 and 13:00, when they sell boerewors rolls for R25 each. Funds raised go towards their pet rescue fund which helps sick and injured strays that find their way into the organisation’s care.

*Cake on a stick: Support Alberton CMR’s effort in their ‘Buy a cake and feed a child’ project. For every cake-on-a-stick that you buy from them, they can provide for a child for a day. *Evening Hebrew Ulpan course: The second semester of the Morris Rutstein SAZF evening Hebrew Ulpan course will start on Tuesday, August 4 and will end on Tuesday, November 4. Classes will be hosted every Tuesday evening from 19:00 to 21:15 in the classrooms of the Yeshiva College, on the corner of Long Avenue and Ridge Road in Glenhazel. NEW*SA Military History Society: Next Johannesburg Branch meeting will be held in the auditorium of the Museum of Military History, Erlswold Way, Saxonwold (next to the Zoo) on August 13 at 20:00. First lecture will be ‘Trekkoppies 26 April 1915’ by Hamish Paterson and the main lecture is ‘James Cook: The early years and first voyage’ by Ken England. The September meeting will be hosted on September 10 at 20:00 with the first lecture ‘Bronkhorstspruit – Where it all started’ by Colin Harris and the main lecture ‘Memory, Commemoration, Memorials and Architects of the First World War – a Journey of Discovery’ presented by Kathy Munro. *Join Kenton Primary School staff on Saturday, August 22, for a fun filled evening at the races when they host a donkey derby from 18:00 onwards. There will be a spit-braai meal served and the dress code is fun or fancy. Photos will be taken at the entrance to the hall and prizes will be awarded to the best dressed participants. *Calling all animal loving golfers. Alberton SPCA will be hosting a golf day on November 10, at Reading Country Club. Costs for the day to sponsor a tee on holes one, nine and 18 is R2 000, and the sponsorship of other tees are R1 000. Four balls can enter at R1 800, which includes dinner and prize-giving. A cash bar will be available. Tee-off is set for 11:00, with the last tee-off time at 13:08. *Walkerville Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday from 09:00 to 15:00. *Come and take a look at the new stores opening up at the Panorama flea market over the next few weeks. Enjoy the entertainment and relaxing trip out of the house. The market is situated just off Kliprivier Drive in Mulbarton, and is the busiest flea market in the South with almost 400 stalls. The flea market is open on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
