Dogs to share joy this Mandela Day

South resident takes creative approach to making a difference in the community

MULBARTON – The whole concept behind Mandela Day is about taking time out of your day to do something good for others.

This year, Mulbarton’s Sue Green and her pups are going all out. Sue, together with Jazmine, Oscar, Yola and Yogi, have teamed up to make a warm and snugly Mandela Day blanket out of dog hairs.

Sue is the owner of the famous dogs, well-known for their appearance in a paint commercial.

“I will hand over the blanket for Mandela Day. I have arranged with the Cotlands director, Jackie Schoeman, that I will make the blanket to raise funds,” said Sue.

Sue is also known for using recycled dog hair to make toy dogs and key rings. She also knits hats, scarves and waist coats.

This creation should be ready before July 18 and Sue is going to raffle the blanket for Cotlands, Turffontein. The proceeds made from the blanket raffle will be donated to the home on Mandela Day.

Schoeman said they were excited to be chosen as beneficiary of the donation.

“I think it’s a very unique way to support the Mandela drive for blankets. It’s a very interesting spin on the drive. It’s very nice that Sue has chosen to make Cotlands the beneficiary of her donation.”

Residents are encouraged to take action, inspire change and make a difference on Mandela Day.
