Classic ballet shows at Cinema Nouveau

A season of five famous ballets from the Royal Ballet is being screened at Cinema Nouveau theatres over the next few months.

The next production to be shown on the big screen is the iconic ballet set to Tchaikovsky’s music, Swan Lake from Saturday, May 2.

The lead roles of Odette/Odile and Prince Siegfried will be portrayed by Anthony Dowell’s Royal Ballet production principal dancers Natalia Osipova and Matthew Golding.

Tchaikovsky’s iconic score and Yolanda Sonnabend’s set designs inspired by The House of Fabergé recreate the glamorous opulence and drama of the Russian court, while the famous lakeside ‘white’ acts are rich with mist, shadow and haunting moonlight.

The live performance on March 17 was captured for release on cinema screens worldwide. Ross McGibbon, a former member of The Royal Ballet, directs the live cinema production, which also includes exclusive backstage footage and interviews with the cast and crew.

Swan Lake releases on South African screens on Saturday, May 2 for four screenings only – on May 2, 6 and 7 May at 19:30 and on May 3 at 14:30 – only at Cinema Nouveau theatres in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town. Bookings are now open.
