The Hair Queen goes green

The Hair Queen in Verwoerd Park is an environmentally friendly hair salon.

ALBERTON- Hair Queen in Verwoerd Park is doing its bit for the environment. The owner, Daniela Steinberg, is concerned about the adverse effect that industries have on the environment.

She has been the owner of the Hair Queen since 1995 and the salon has grown considerably since that time. Today the salon employs three hairdressers and two trainees.

After some deliberation in 2014, Daniela switched to Davines hair products. Every product formulated or produced by Davines is obtained using renewable energy since 2006.

One of the other hairdressers, Ria, stated that since using the products her scalp does not itch any more and the colourants do not burn when applied. This is due to the fact that natural elements such as fig milk, organic shea butter, jojoba and sweet almond oil are used – to mention but a few.

This approach to beauty intrigued Daniela, who is currently deliberating on how to reduce their environmental footprint even more. Currently they re-use Davines containers and recycle everything possible in the salon.

Davines further inspired Daniela by offering their clients a haircut and/or a blow dry, and all proceeds, based on free donations, are given to socio-environmental projects for the creation and protection of forest areas.

Daniela, her husband Pieter and their two sons have been living in Alberton for 20 years. Her first salon was in Second Avenue, Florentia, but the move to Verwoerdpark has been a good decision and the business is still growing.

The Hair Queen is running a Valentines special from February 9 to 14. Spend R500 and you receive a free treatment and blow dry.

They specialise in colour, cutting, styling, Brazilian blow wave and extensions.
