Gastronomically delicious

Delicious destination: If you are in need of some culinary therapy make your way to the Art Farm bakery.

ALBERTON- The pastry chef Viktor Helberg originally hails from Zimbabwe and trained at the Silwood School of Cookery in Rondebosch, Cape Town.

Silwood boasts student achievement unmatched by any other cookery school in South Africa and graduates can be found in kitchens worldwide. The school furthermore trains the Woolworths recipients of the Taste Magazine bursary.

Viktor was voted the best chocolatier after completing a course in Montreal, Canada some years ago. He describes chocolate as an ever-changing art form and he loves to experiment with new techniques in his baking and cooking.

He shares this approach with the owners of Art Farm, whose motto is “Experience, Create and Inspire”. Eugene and Ilse Bekker have remarkable vision for this piece of land and seeing it unfold is exciting yet nerve-racking at times.

They are in the process of creating a lovely restaurant, book shop, coffee shop, petting zoo and art exhibit. The wedding venue has been utilised to host a wedding in 2013.

Eugene is the Chairman of the junior Alberton cricket club and has created two cricket pitches on the farm for future matches.

They also see this as a venue for mountain bikers to use as a pit stop or a starting point on out rides.

These two people have a passion for all art forms, whether it be culinary, visual, written or musical, and they want to use the farm to share this love with other people. Watch this space for exciting future developments.
