Relief on fuel price adjustment

Motorists are all smiles at petrol stations around the south following a reduction in fuel prices

JOHANNESBURG south motorists expressed relief on the morning of January 7 at petrol stations as they filled up their tanks before heading off to work.

“The cost of living in this country has been so high which is why I welcome this relief in the petrol price. I’m so happy to be starting 2015 like this we all know how January, or rather, ‘Janu-worry’ can be a difficult month to get through,” said Zama Mazibuko from the south.

Minister of Energy, Tina Joemat-Pettersson welcomed the reduction in prices of fuel after her department announced the reduction on January 2 and said it would bring relief to motorists. The announcement reported that petrol, diesel, illuminating paraffin and Liquefied Petroleum Gas prices would be reduced on January 7.

“This huge decrease in the fuel prices would be a big relief to motorists and users of LPG and paraffin, in particular the low-income households,” said Joemat-Pettersson.

A statement by the Energy Department attributed the reduction in petrol prices to the continued drop in the price of crude oil which led to a decrease in the prices of petroleum products (petrol, diesel, Illuminating Paraffin and Liquefied Petroleum Gas) in the international markets.

The price of petrol dropped by over one Rand on Wednesday with the price of 93 Octane dropping by R1.27 less per litre and 95 Octane dropping by R1.23 per litre. Diesel price went down by R1.05 per litre and paraffin by R1.44.
