Alberton Day Music Festival did not hold back

Alberton Day Music Festival was the place to be this weekend, with three days jam-packed entertainment for young and old alike.

ALBERTON – Not rain nor load shedding was able to put a damper on this well-organised event, the organisers had backup plans and systems in place for anything that could have happened.

Friday the festival opened with hosted artists such as Shadow Club and Prime Circle. The weather held up and the few drops that fell did not deter any Prime Circle fans from being front and centre to see this band do what they do best on stage.

The RECORD’s Unite Against Crime walk started things bright and early on Saturday. Not only was the festival filled with amazing entertainment all through the three days, but the crime walk showed a community standing together in support of SAPS and EMPD’s hard work to keep us safe.

The Mayor also attended this event to show that he, like so many others, is taking a stand against crime in our community. EMPD’s canine unit did not only entertain the children, but also taught valuable lessons on crime prevention.

The festival did not stop for anything, even though most of Alberton was affected by load shedding on Saturday. The event was well-planned and generators took over and supplied the electricity. Nor did a storm stop the party from going on, festival-goers moved to one of the beer tents to enjoy the performances of Karlien van Jaarsveld, Theuns Jordaan and The Parlotones.

Sunday crowds were entertained by artists like Ghapi, Kurt Darren and LCNVL. Kurt even had a few couples on stage with him to sokkie to his songs.

With so many highlights it is difficult to cover them all, everyone present had the opportunity to make memories to last a lifetime. For those who did not join us this year, be sure not to miss out next year! Organisers made the announcement on Sunday that the dates for next year’s Alberton Day have been set. We will all come together for a rocking music festival next year on December 4, 5 and 6.

The organisers would like to thank each and every ticket holder for their support, they know that without the community an event such as this would not happen. Mark Assante also made this announcement on stage Sunday afternoon.

Manie Reynecke from the Alberton Rugby Club would also like to thank Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality for their support with this event.

More than 21 000 people received more than they could have bargained for with a safe, well-organised and world-class event.

The RECORD cannot wait for next year, but until then, we will be reminiscing about a great weekend. Please go and view photo galleries and interviews with artists on our website www.albertonrecord.co.za
