A new chef at Reading

He enjoys “comfort food", calls himself a “rustic chef" and is most pleased when he can prepare wholesome meals such as oxtails, stews and curries.

ALBERTON – Kenneth Bauser (48) originally from Pretoria but now staying in New Redruth, has joined the Reading Country Club team as their new Food and Beverage Manager. Selected from a list of 150 applicants, Kenneth is clearly delighted to have been appointed as the “new chef in the kitchen” and says that he has been overwhelmed by the warm welcome he received from staff, members and visitors at Reading.

Kenneth has had a varied and very interesting career, starting out as fireman and paramedic, his real calling in life from an early age. His other passion, cooking, led to a career change in 2005, when he qualified at the prestigious Prue Leith Chef’s Academy and began a very successful career in the food and beverages industry.

“Certainly a career that took me on many paths,” he continues. “I worked on a game farm for a well known mining company, found myself in the kitchen of 5-star guest house in Hazyview in Mpumalanga and served delicatessens in a boutique-style restaurant in Pretoria.”

He confesses that he does not play golf, nor bowls – he does play the odd game of tennis – but he certainly has big plans for Alberton’s very own country club. “I hope to make a big difference. Reading’s venues are very popular and I intend to pay close attention to the choice of menus available to guests. “I also want to ensure that members of the club are happy with the food and service they receive from their kitchen.”
