Alberton has shown a drastic increase in contact crimes according to the recently released SAPS crime statistics (April to March 2013/14).

The statistics indicate that murder cases increased from six cases to 18 cases, a 300 per cent increase.

Sexual related crimes increased from 59 cases to 75 and attempted murder from 20 to 28 cases.

There was a decrease in assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, with cases decreasing from 223 to 220.

Carjacking cases increased from 68 to 103 and robbery at residential premises increased from 41 cases to 51.

There was an increase in the number of culpable homicide cases, from 31 to 40.

There was a major decrease in public violence cases from 47 to one.

Kidnapping cases also decreased from eight to six cases.
