Much of your leisure time is spent at home.

For this reason it is essential that the necessary precautions are taken in order to feel secure in your house. A few safety tips when relaxing at home:

* Never open the door to strangers, regardless of how respectable they may look.

* Always have your keys ready before you get to the door – this is when you are most vulnerable.

* Never hide a door key anywhere outside.

* Ensure that areas around external doors, especially your front door, are well lit.

* Keep your front gate locked at all times.

* Keep your curtains closed at night.

* If you go on holiday, have your mail collected and lights turned on and off.

* If possible, put burglar bars on all your windows and a security gate at your front and back door.

* Never be afraid to call your security company if you have one, or your local police – it is their duty to protect you.
