Footnotes: what shoes to wear

Alberton – Some start their outfit from the shoes up, for others it is an afterthought. Either way, when it comes to making a choice there are less rules than you would think.

There is no need to throw away the flats. Many brides are choosing comfort for their special day, and why not? If you want to dance all night, your shoes should not be the reason you are unable to.

There is also no need to stick with white, ivory, silver or gold. Adding a pop of colour is a trendy statement. This can be done with long dresses, where your shoes will create an element of surprise when guests see them. With a short dress they become the centre of attention.

For beach weddings you could easily exchange traditional shoes for lace or jewelled barefoot sandals. These types of sandals keep it fun, while adding just the right amount of class and sophistication.

If you do choose heels for the day, make sure to walk them in before your special day.

It might also be a good idea to keep a pair of flats handy if you are not used to heels, or for when your feet just need a break.
