Alberton stairway to fame

Candice trains in Alberton under the watchful eye and guidance of specialised former KZN sport specialist Juan Swart.

ALBERTON – Olympic athlete Candice Neethling from Shelly Beach Kwa-Zulu Natal is doing her final specialised training in preparation for the World mountain biking championships in Norway during September, right here in Alberton at the Alberton Sports and Fitness Centre Gymnasium.

Candice accompanied the SA team to the 2012 Olympic Games as a trainee member, and is focusing on the next Olympic Games in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.

Her career highlights include the Kwa-Zulu Natal athletics and biathlon championship titles since 2003, the same year in which she won a bronze medal at the SA biathlon championships. She also won bronze at the junior world mountain biking championships for third place in 2009. She won the SA women’s mountain biking championship in her category from 2009 to 2012, and is rated this year as the number three elite woman in the country.

Candice is sponsored by Velo Life in Rosebank, but travel daily from Sandton to Alberton to train here under the watchful eye and guidance of specialised former KZN sport specialist Juan Swart.

He is a specialised coach in eight different sports, and also prefers to travel from Edenvale to train his athletes at Zane Mundell and his team’s fully equipped New Redruth Gymnasium.
