Portugal Cultural-Coupe at Carnival City

From Tuesday 23rd to Sunday 28th September Sun International’s Carnival City Casino and Entertainment World will deliver the best of Portugal.

Hot on the heals of an exceptional first year’s success in 2013, A FESTA PORTUGUESA will once again deliver a cultural Portuguese extravaganza like no other.

The better part of all of this will be due the fact that ‘The United State’s Portuguese King of Pop’ JORGE FERREIRA, will be ramping up the 2014 cultural extravaganza to new and exciting heights, thanks to capacity shows at Johannesburg’s choice entertainment destination.

Heritage, culture, legacy and history are set to meld when A FESTA PORTUGUESA 2014 welcomes JORGE FERREIRA to their impressive, five-day feast of the senses.

While he prepares an impressive set-list of much loved fan favourites, A FESTA PORTUGUESA will focus on everything Portuguese in-between. Think great food, music, competitions, exhibitions and more, and the only place to be between 23rd and 28th September is out on the East Rand, loving life as much as the people of Portugal do.

Born in Azores, Portugal (in February 1955) JORGE FERREIRA has worked tirelessly to build a career in music that rivals his peers. He also happens to be the president and founder of Portuguese Music World, the world’s most-famous Portuguese record company.

South Africans, and the better part of the First World know and love him for his early 80s breakout hit-single “Papai”. Having sold in excess of 1.2 million copies, it stands as the country’s fifth best-selling song of all time!

Besides knowing that there’s a good chance he’ll honour his legacy, fans of the man can look out for all of his biggest hits and memories. Loved and applauded the world over, the United States, Canada, Bermuda, Venezuela, the United Kingdom, France and Portuguese islands of Madeira, the Azores and South Africa too, each relishes the opportunity to catch JORGE FERREIRA live when his schedule allows.

What started out in 1979 with the single “Conjunto Mars”, and its accompanying full-length album Mars, showcased a mix of Portuguese and American pop songs in a way that’s yet to be repeated by anyone. Next up was Amar Como Jesus Amou (To Love Like Jesus Loved) – an album that was also released in Portugal with great success. The game changer though was with the release of the album Viva Fall River (Live Fall River), arguably an album that changed the face of continental pop forever.

In a career that spans four decades JORGE FERREIRA has released full-length albums, more than four mini-albums, 16 singles, 20 compilations, three live albums, 16 musical collaborations, one VHS, eight DVDs… and an amazing number of music videos to boot!

So what is it about JORGE FERREIRA, and the magic he continues to make, that literally has the world at his feet? Take a wonderful voice, add accomplished orchestras, blend in good old-fashioned Portuguese-fed sorrow, joy, nostalgia and love-based lyrics, and you’ve got a recipe for authentic success.

JORGE FERREIRA will perform and The Big Top Arena at Carnival City Casino and Entertainment World on Friday 26 September, at 7pm, and again on Saturday 27 September, at 1pm.

Tickets to see him live in concert range from between from R300 and R600 each. Each ticket bought will also allow fans entrance to A FESTA PORTUGUESA on the day of the performance they attend.
