A new look for Alberton City

Refurbishment estimated to cost R 28 million

OVER the last 25 years, Alberton City has established itself as a household name in the Alberton area. Nestled within the Alberton CBD, the shopping centre is conveniently located with easy access from the highway.

The centre is light and open, with a comfortable environment and is well loved for offering ‘everything under one roof’. From fashion, to food, home accessories and much more, the centre provides an easy shopping experience for all. Alberton began its refurbishment, estimated to cost R28 million, in September 2013.

The popular regional centre, which has served the local community for more than 25 years, was last refurbished in 2008. Alberton City was previously co-owned by Growthpoint Properties and Liberty Group Properties until 2012.

The refurbishment proceeded in two phases. Work began in September 2013 at Entrance 5, where a new Jet Store took occupation, and began trading in December 2013. The refurbishment of the common mall area on the upper level and the southern parking area formed part of the project‘s first phase. The first phase was completed in November 2013.

The second phase began in January 2014 and was completed in June 2014 and focused on the upper and lower levels. The refurbishment included tiling, painting, lighting, balustrades, the relocation of escalators and stair cases, signage and an upgrade of Entrances 2 and 7.

With good security and ample parking for all, Alberton City has become one of the leading shopping centres within the community.
