Business indaba presents viable solutions

The Alberton Business Forum held a meeting at the Dros Alberton to discuss ‘The biggest crooks are the best dressed’.

ALBERTON – Sean Brown, ABF chairman, welcomed everyone to the meeting and each person from various companies introduced themselves and what they do or offer. Sean Brown is an attorney operating in the Alberton area and specialising in construction for the past ten years.

Tersia Burger was the last one to introduce herself: she is from Stepping Stone Hospice and related the history and what they do; a business that started from Tersia’s house and moved to the Amcare premises, how tthe Hospice grew and received all the necessary items from a generous company.

Their mission statement: “To provide specialist palliative care to people experiencing the impact of life-threatening illness. To assist family and care givers through this experience and bring solace to those grieving the death of loved one.”

The difference between the Alberton Stepping Stone Hospice and other hospices is that they accept all patients with any disease and not just AIDS and cancer.

The next person who presented a business initiative was guest speaker Christel Rosslee-Venter, founder of three companies who is studying for her master’s degree in advertising.

She addressed the pitfalls of marketing using three key examples: the spaghetti tester (tossing things around by utilising various advertising platforms and hoping it ‘sticks’), the surfer boy (takes every opportunity that jumps his way and goes with the flow). Then there is Mr Know-it-all who uses intimidation marketing: he will offer you a platform to advertise your product and you don’t know where you’re going with it…

“How to eliminate this?” asked Christel rhetorically. “It’s all about focus and planning,” she added.

Proper planning, the route you are going and the dynamics within your business are also important to keep the structure of the business going.

A new joint venture was introduced: FNB in Brackenhurst, Bracken City has decided to partner with ABF and will be at the next month’s meeting. For a confirmed date check online at www.albertonbusiness.co.za
