Alberante Motor Holdings – a rich history

It is evident that from small, ambitious beginnings to the respected dealership of today, Alberante BMW remains true to its founding principles.

WITH a history dating back to 1981 the developers acquired their first business property in Penzance Street, New Redruth, that constituted the beginning of the Alberante Motor Group. The group has since prospered and is still growing at a steady pace.

It all started with the development of a Caltex filling station and offices on the corner of Penzance Street and Truro Road, with the first floor offices and filling station opening early 1983 and the architect, Anthony Papageorgiou utilising offices on the second floor since 1984 till today.

During 1984 a dealership, then known as Alberante Delta, moved into the facility behind the filling station, which now serves as the Fresh Stop convenience store complete with ATM facilities since early 2014.

Three adjacent stands were acquired, resulting in the demolition of the houses, which culminated in the development of additional facilities for Delta and the subsequently acquired BMW dealership, opening during 1988. Upon the relocation of BMW during 2004, the New Car Showroom was enlarged and upgraded, and the entire New Redruth property has since been utilised by Alberante Delta, which later became Alberante GM.

The complete upgrading of the Caltex filling station after 30 years of use was complemented by the establishment of an attractive Fresh Stop outlet in January 2014.

The shops and flats on the corner of Penzance Street and Bodmin Road still exists with minor changes and improvements over the years.

Lemon Tree Shopping Centre – corner of Heidelberg and Swartkoppies roads

The Lemon Tree became part of the group in 2001, with less than 20 shops and a flea market in the Centre, which was then known as the Newmarket Mall.

The flea market was subsequently closed and the Centre was renamed The Lemon Tree, with some of the original tenants still remaining. These are Tile Africa, AMC Classic, and Gee Wizz Hair Salon. Gee Wizz was part of the Centre since its opening in 1984.

Spur opened its doors in 2003, followed by Pick ‘n Pay in 2004 and Dros in 2005. Since moving into the Centre, Pick n Pay increased the size of their facility in 2007 and the enlarged shop was launched on the same day the Woolworths Food store opened their doors in the modern upgraded Centre, designed by architect Anthony Papageorgiou.

Today the centre boasts over 60 shops, including Liquor City, Clicks, Capitec Bank and free parking for almost 1 000 vehicles.

Alberante BMW – 1 Voortrekker Road (corner N12 offramp)

Alberante BMW has a history as powerful as its future. In 2001 they acquired the new stand, which was formerly the old Zozo Site. Prior to 1960 the site was used as a dumping site for building rubble of old demolished buildings, where the Carlton Centre stands today.

Alberante BMW moved from Penzance Street to the new premises, also designed by Anthony Papageorgiou and opened in 2004.

It is evident that from small, ambitious beginnings to the respected dealership of today, Alberante BMW remains true to its founding principles. Established in 1988, Alberante BMW has strengthened its promise to deliver outstanding service, technical brilliance and excellent customer relationships. These values still underpin the business today – driving the dealership from strength to strength and resulting in the dealership winning the prestigious BMW Financial Service Dealer Award for 2013.

At Alberante they pride themselves on outstanding after sales service experience, and their vehicle sales and service departments are among the best in the country. .
