Service delivery still under the spotlight

From bulldozing trees to call centres ... EMM needs to address problems

ALBERTON – Mario Dos Santos of Brackenhurst exention 2 raised concerns about various problems in the area. He brought it to the RECORD’s attention on May 28.

His list of concerns included water leakage, electricity, street lights and the amount of delays regarding EMM service delivery in the area. The call centre was also mentioned as a problem area.

“I have to pay for a call on April 7 which cost me R27, and the call was never answered. I’ve been going to the Depo/main council building and was directed to various people in different departments.”

According to Mario, an EMM representative had said to him that a bulldozer went in for a service, which was supposed to be used for the removal of the trees which were affecting the main water supply, causing a pipe to break close to where he lives. “For an entire day, there was clean water running into the street,” said Mario. The EMM removed the tree around a month ago and dumped it into the open veld in the area. “EMM is such a big place, are you telling me they only have one bulldozer? “asked Mario.

In the process of removing the tree stump, Mario explained that they broke the street light on the corner of Koedoe and Lion streets in extention 2.

He was shocked to find out that the damage to the street light was not reported weeks after the incident occurred. A week ago on May 28, he reported it and the light was fixed.

The main issues he addressed was about the call centres (nobody answers the phones), addressing the main problems in the area. When he went to the council building, they shoved and directed him to a certain sections, when he had addressed one issue.

EMM’s response on May 6 was: The streetlight was fixed and the Roads department is busy building the storm water pipe. The work is expected to be completed in two week’s time.
