e.tv brings Africa’s biggest music Awards, the MAMAs

The Channel will broadcast the star-studded ceremony on Saturday, June 14 at 22:00.

FOR the first time e.tv will broadcast the highly anticipated MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) taking place on Saturday, June 7 in Durban.

The Channel will broadcast the star-studded ceremony on Saturday, June 14 at 22:00. The expected line-up includes, US Comedian Marlon Wayans, R&B crooners Miguel, Trey Songz and hip hop star French Montana.

Not only will e.tv broadcast the main event, but there will be a series of build-up events that include a behind the scenes and the Road to the MAMAs activations. The Road to the MAMAs (RTM) is a three-city music activation featuring live performances by selected regional musicians and the nominees across the continent. This year the activations will take place in Durban, Dar Es Salaam and Lagos.

The Awards will be a star-studded affair with US comedian actor Marlon Wayans as the host, and international performances by R&B crooner Miguel and rapper French Montana. One of the biggest selling male artists, Trey Songz, is expected to thrill the crowds alongside his fellow countrymen.

“The African Music Awards are a global celebration of African music, culture and talent. e.tv is proud of the association with the MAMAs, and this is part of our ongoing commitment to provide our audience with the best the continent has on offer,” enthused Monde Twala, Group Head, etv Channels division.

The list of nominees includes South Africa’s top charters, with Mafikizolo and Uhuru topping the list with four nominations, among them, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration. Other SA artists nominated include Big Nuz, Zakes Bantwini, Mi Casa, Durban pop duo The Arrows and DJ C’ndo.

Broadening the scope of the awards in 2014, achievement in non-music fields by a young African male or female under the age of 40 will be awarded.
