Brain Barnard to England

This Alberton cricketer joined Alberton Cricket Club years ago at 15 and has a bright future ahead of him.

ALBERTON – Following a brilliant season for Alberton in the Gauteng Premier League, as well as his successful stint with the Highveld Strikers, Brain Barnard left to play English county club cricket in England during the next four months.

If his current form is an indicator of what his English club Bayfleat could expect from him in the surrey league, then his massive 1490 runs-record of last season is in danger.

Brain scored nine hundreds during the past season and played 12 A-list games for the Highveld Strikers and three first class games. His A-list average was 43 and first class average 72.

In his seven 20/20 games for the Strikers, he amassed 228 runs with an average of 42.

In the Premier League, Brain’s average in five limited-over games was 68 and in day cricket his average was 58. For the Saturday 1 side, he played 11 games, for which side he hit four centuries.

This Alberton cricketer joined Alberton Cricket Club years ago at 15. He visited England as a schoolboy for the first time in 2005, as a member of the Alberton Cricket Club’s high schools team. Now he returns as one of Alberton’s top cricket players and the winner of three awards at Alberton Cricket Club Awards Dinner.
