R1,9 million top prize in Roulette Masters’ grand finale

The total prize money for the tournament finals climbed dramatically over the eight weeks of the tournament to reach an unprecedented R2,4 million.

GOLD REEF CITY – The Roulette Masters’ winner from the seven finalists, Neil Singh, took home R1,9 million in cash, the highest prize ever in a R100 buy-in roulette tournament.

The grand finale of Tsogo Sun’s strikingly successful Roulette Masters Tournament was played on March 29 at Gold Reef City Casino.

The total prize money for the tournament finals climbed dramatically over the eight weeks of the tournament to reach an unprecedented R2,4 million, giving the second prize winner R250 000; third, R150 000; fourth, R75 000; fifth, R50 000; sixth, R40 000; and seventh, R32 000. A further R425 000 was won at the 13 Tsogo Sun casinos, where the qualifying heats of the Roulette Masters were played to select the semi-finalists. This brings the grand total tournament prize money to R2,92 million, which is a staggering R1,22 million more than Tsogo Sun originally guaranteed when this inaugural Roulette Masters was first launched in January.

The stakes have been getting higher and higher each week as every cent of the R100 buy-ins at all 13 properties over the eight weeks of the tournament went into the prize money purse.

“The unprecedented success of this tournament led to a tremendously high level of excitement at the culmination of this competition on March 29. Both the players and spectators felt the tension in the early part of the day as the 36 semi-finalists played to determine the seven finalists, who would then play against each other over seven spins in the grand finale. This was an event that made memories for everyone who participated – and we’re proud to have been able to deliver such a thrilling experience for so many gaming enthusiasts,” comments Steve Hight, Director of Gaming of Tsogo Sun.

The 36 semi-finalists won their right to play in the semi-final based on qualifying across 13 of Tsogo Sun’s casinos, through a leader board scoring system and unit-specific semi-final, before earning a place in the grand final heats at Gold Reef City. Five players were chosen from Montecasino, four each from Suncoast, Gold Reef City and Silverstar, three from Golden Horse Casino, The Ridge, Hemingway’s Casino and Emnotweni Casino, two from Garden Route Casino and Goldfields Casino, and one each from Mykonos Casino, Blackrock Casino and The Caledon Casino.

“Congratulations to our lucky winner and all the finalists in the tournament. We trust they all enjoyed being flown to Joburg and entertained at Gold Reef City, and we look forward to making this annual tournament for roulette lovers all over the country to look forward to,” says Hight.
