An emotional Louis Odendaal, the Alberton Rugby Club chairperson, announced his stepping down from his position due to health reasons. However, the executive committee resolved to appoint Odendaal as vice-president.

The Alberton Rugby Club hosted an awards ceremony to honour its players, staff and executive members.

The October 10 ceremony saw the clubhouse on the corner of 2nd Avenue and Braun Street, Vervoerdpark, Alberton, packed to capacity.

The night began with supporters, players, executive committee members, coaching, and supporting staff trickling in and exchanging pleasantries.

Odendaal, who was still the chairperson, made the opening remarks, touching on the club’s history and its future goals. He then announced the decision to step down.

Odendaal was emotional when making the announcement, and even though the crowd in the clubhouse cheered in his honour, the mood was somewhat sombre. He takes the vice-president role, and the acting chairperson is Rory Lategan.
