Alberton Chinese Kickboxing Fight Club dominates at competition

Some of the Alberton Chinese Kickboxing Fight Club fighters are as young as seven years old, and they are already medal winners.

Alberton Chinese Kickboxing Fight Club (ACKB) fighters keep proving that they are a force by winning provincial kickboxing competitions.

Just recently, the club’s fighters emerged victorious from the Battle of the East, held at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre. The competition, affiliated with the South Africa Kickboxing Association, saw fighters from various areas in the Gauteng province converge to compete and represent their respective towns and cities.

Alberton-based ACKB fighters were counted as some of the best in the competition.

ACKB entered eight fighters and they managed to clinch 13 gold, six silver and one bronze medal in the competition.

Six of the eight fighters were new and relatively inexperienced in fight competitions. They performed incredibly well, and their coaches attribute their excellent performance to six months of hard work, training and dedication.

“There is stigma going around that kickboxing is an aggressive sport, however, martial arts is more about disciplined focus and its benefits are endless. It is also a technique and art of fighting. It’s also a form of exercise, good for weight loss, teaches one self-defence skills, it improves memory, focus, sharpness and cardiovascular health,” said coach Yvette Schlotfeldt, a seasoned martial arts fighter herself.

Schlotfeldt calls on parents to keep their kids and teenagers active and fit by encouraging them to join physical sporting activities.
