Women’s Day parkrun gets the community involved

Rietvlei hosts a colourful parkrun for the ladies.

Rietvlei Zoo Farm hosted a Women’s Day parkrun on August 10, to help get the ladies in the community active and to commemorate all the women involved in the weekly parkrun.

Many community members and their families came out to run and enjoy the day.

Parkrun is an international event that takes place at parks around the world. All runs take place at 08:00 on a Saturday morning.

Rietvlei and the directors of the run decided to incorporate Women’s Day into the parkrun as all ladies were asked to dress up in their pink and purple clothes to bring vibrancy to the run in a way only women can.

Amy Berry, the event director for Rietvlei parkrun spoke about the Women’s Day parkrun.

“As a woman, I love being active and this gives me the perfect opportunity. Women need to be acknowledged and wearing our pink and purple clothes for the run gives a sign of all that women bring to the world.”
