Eventful season lies ahead for ringtennis players

The Alberton Ringtennis Club’s chairperson, Niël Fouché, says they are looking forward to a great season and, hopefully, building relations with new people joining the ringtennis family.

The Alberton Ringtennis Club looks forward to busy provincial matches where they will soon go up against Sedibeng and Gauteng North.

They are also busy with development camps in preparation for an exciting tour for the SA development and SA senior teams. These teams will go to the Internationales Deutsches Turnfest 2025 in Leipzig, Germany, from May 28, 2025, to June 1, 2025.

In Leipzig, they will spend an extended week playing test matches against local German clubs.

“Locally, all players are also preparing for our annual SA championship tournaments in the different categories of singles, mixed doubles, women’s and men’s doubles. From August 9 to 11, all of our junior players will attend the junior tournament at Serobe Adventures,” explained the Alberton Ringtennis Club’s chairperson, Niël Fouché.

During the junior tourney, the players will be taught new skills, get an oversight of the international rules, build bonds with fellow players and have lots of fun.

“Our first major event is the club championships on August 24 at Kempton Park High School. Our new development teams from Elspark High School will also receive much attention. Other schools are welcome to contact us should they wish to develop ringtennis at their schools,” Fouché said.

He assured that players of all ages could enjoy ringtennis.

“Our players’s ages range from seven to 75, all playing for the love of the sport. It is a family-orientated sport, so the whole family can get an opportunity to enjoy time together. We invite those interested in the sport, and all are welcome,” he said.

The club will provide coaching every Tuesday and Thursday from 18:30 to 20:00 at the Alberton Ringtennis courts, 2nd Avenue, Florentia (next to the KFC).
