Alberton Wrestling Club brings home 11 medals from the national championships

Alberton Wrestling Club brings home 11 medals after dominating at the National Championships.

Nine wrestlers from the Alberton Wrestling Club competed in the national championships held at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre where they brought home 11 medals.

The championships were held from June 28 to 29, seeing 262 wrestlers competing for honours.

The club is happy to announce that all their wrestlers who managed to get gold medals were awarded their SA colours.

First-day results:

• First place (gold): Richard Addinall

• Second place (silver): Shaun de Kock

• Third place (bronze): Burger van Baalen and Shaun de Kock

Second-day results:

The club came back strong on the second day of the championships with the wrestlers winning seven medals.

• First place (gold) Richard Addinall, Jaco Bornman, Shaun de Kock (two medals), and Lara Erasmus.

• Third place (bronze) Burger van Baalen and Sonet Scriven.

“It was a long and hard day, but we showed what we are capable of. The wrestlers made us incredibly proud and we want to thank our Heavenly Father for our children’s talents,” said Lizelle Fourie, secretary for Alberton Wrestling Club.

The club thanks Richard Addinall, Brian Watson, and Lezandri Zanberg for their hard work and dedication towards the team’s preparation and support throughout the tournament.
