Marais Viljoen learner Triston Kirkwood makes provincial hockey team

Triston Kirkwood, a Marais Viljoen High School learner, was selected for the Gauteng provincial hockey team in the U18 category for boys.

The team will participate in an interprovincial hockey tournament in Durban on June 30, during which players for the SA team will be selected.

Triston has competed for the Eastern Gauteng team since last year at the regionals and plays for his school’s hockey team. He has played hockey since primary school and has shown persistence in his hockey exploits. He would like to further his provincial hockey career with Gauteng Schools Hockey.

As field hockey is still an amateur sport in SA, the players must cover all the costs, which also usually falls on their parents. Therefore, Triston has asked individuals and businesses to aid him by sponsoring his tournament. He requires tournament fees, a hockey kit and hockey gear.

The Kirkwood family appeals for any contribution to help ensure Triston seizes the chance to go to the tournament and gain valuable experience by competing against some of the best teams and players in the country.

“I am passionate about hockey and really want to pursue my hockey career as far as possible, but funds are an issue,” Triston said.

Triston would like to go to university, study medicine and become a doctor one day.

“I want to pursue a degree in medicine, but right now, I would love to see how far I can go with hockey. I want to represent SA,” said Triston.

Individuals and companies can make a difference in Triston’s sporting journey by calling him on 074 933 2932 or his mother on 083 4010 296 to get more information on how to help.
