The Schutte family appeals to the community to aid them in making their daughter’s once-in-a-lifetime dream come true.
Hailey Schutte (16) is an Alberton resident who is a talented hockey player and has been playing hockey since the age of six.
Hailey was selected to represent South Africa in Italy in September.
She was scouted at the Southern Skies Mega Sports Festival in George, where her U16 team from EG Jansen girls played against other U16 and first teams and won the U16 tournament.
She expressed being chosen from among 2 700 participants at esteemed South African schools was a wonderful honour. She is sincerely grateful to be recognised in the sport of her choice because she puts so much effort into ensuring that she gets good results, which often puts her in prize-winning positions.
“Both Ashley, my young sister, and I have been chosen for different overseas tours to represent the country in hockey. Ashley was also spotted during their U14 tournament but has chosen not to go to the Netherlands in September. She gave me the opportunity to represent my family and the community, as we seek financial help from everyone who can help,” the talented hockey player said.
Hailey was also a hockey player in her primary and high school teams and has featured in numerous teams, including the Eastern Gauteng teams, Golden Spartans, Quaggas, Knights and Naledi.
Hailey’s mother, Natasha, said it would be a great honour to see her daughter going overseas for the first time to do what she does best and truly loves doing.
“We are proud as parents of Hailey and Ashley’s achievements because playing hockey is a huge passion they share as siblings. We plead with the community to help us get at least one to represent both of them,” said Natasha.
She said this would be a dream come true for both of them because they are always working hard to reach their dreams.
“We would appreciate any donation; big or small; to make her dream come true,” Natasha concluded.
