Vodacom Bulls crush Hollywoodbets Sharks

The Vodacom Bulls handed the Hollywoodbets Sharks a devastating 44-10 defeat at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday, November 2.

After the match, head coach John Plumtree openly expressed his disappointment and admitted that the Bulls were the superior team. He didn’t hold back from criticising some of his players for their subpar performance.

This loss adds to the Sharks’ struggles this season, as it marks their sixth defeat in seven matches played so far. It’s certainly a reality check for Plumtree, especially after their impressive victory against the Dragons in Durban just the previous week.

Plumtree shared his dismay, saying, “We’re very disappointed but also surprised. I thought we were further along than that, but clearly, we still have a lot to work on as a team.” Reflecting on their win against the Dragons, he emphasised the significant difference in the Bulls’ strength and stressed the importance of the Sharks coming together and functioning as a more cohesive unit.

In this game, the Sharks didn’t get many things right, both tactically and physically. Plumtree acknowledged that they didn’t look like they were in the right frame of mind, and he expressed disappointment in the team not showcasing their pride in the jersey. He believed they should have performed better and shown more spirit.

Even though the Sharks have talented players, Plumtree recognised that their team foundation is not solid enough. In contrast, he pointed out that the Bulls currently sit in third place in the United Rugby Championship standings, while the Sharks are struggling in fifteenth position out of sixteen teams.

Plumtree conceded that the Bulls deserve credit for their performance, but he also identified the need for the Sharks to learn from their example and strive for greater unity and coherence on the field. It’s a call to action for the team to improve their foundation and work together towards better results.
