Locals and baseball enthusiasts swing for a cause

The community was treated to a phenomenal day of baseball, community spirit, and endless fun during the club’s Home Run Derby Fundraiser event.

The Southern Stars Baseball Club NPC hosted an action-packed fundraiser at the Alberton Football Club.

The Home Run Derby fundraiser offered baseball enthusiasts and those looking for a fun-filled day with family and friends, excitement, laughter, and friendly competition.

A wide variety of stalls were also available, including amazing prizes.

The fundraiser was not just about having a great time. It was also about giving back to the beloved Southern Stars Baseball Club NPC.

They will use the raised money to develop the baseball fields in Alberton for both senior and junior baseball players.

“The club started in 2010. We played from Germiston and moved to Alberton in 2020. We started the junior team in the previous year, and now have three junior teams and two senior teams. Through the fundraiser, we intend on fixing up our fields,” said chairperson Shaun Niemand.

Close to 100 people showed up on the day to offer their support.

Winners who walked away with prizes for the home run. For adults, in first place were Camren van der Watt and Keira-May Kleber, and in second place Bevan Strydom. For children aged nine to 12, Blaine Klopper came first, while Calvin Niemand came in second place followed by Robert Klopper in third.

For children U8, Tyler Niemand came in first place, Treydon Edwards in second and Jayden Grobler was third.
The winner of the washing line raffle was Nikita Swanepoel.
