100 marathons in 100 days inspires global support and hope

With just a few kilometers left, Chad's 100-day, 4 200km run has captivated hearts worldwide.

As Chad Markgraaf approaches the finish line of his journey of 100 marathons in 100 days, international and national communities have been captivated by his indomitable spirit and the incredible support that has poured in from near and far.

With just over 800km left of this 4 200km odyssey, Chad’s endeavour has united communities, transcended borders and kindled the flame of hope for a brighter future.

According to Chad, one of the most remarkable aspects of his journey has been the outpouring of support from both local businesses and international well-wishers.

“Sponsorships for the marathon have poured in from the Netherlands, Canada, England and Australia, with individuals from the country sponsoring R100 for every kilometre run during the marathon. If a marathon is 42km long and people contribute R100 for each of those kilometres, it amounts to a total sponsorship of R4 200 for that marathon.

“This practice aids in the funding and support of marathons because the money received can be used for a variety of expenses such as organising the event, providing amenities for participants, and possibly even contributing to charitable causes, depending on the nature of the marathon.

“The generosity of these sponsors has not only fueled my physical and mental strength, but it has also provided critical resources for the cause that I champion,” Chad said.

These acts of kindness have been meticulously documented on social media, allowing followers to witness the journey’s progress and the positive impact it has on the lives of others.

Three open marathons: an opportunity to make a difference

While the finish line is in sight, there are still three marathons awaiting sponsorship. Chad and his supporters are calling on individuals, businesses and communities to step forward and fill these slots. By doing so, they can contribute to the lasting legacy of this extraordinary journey and ensure that every step taken continues to inspire and bring hope to those in need.

A personal message from John Smit

Chad’s journey received a significant boost when John Smit, the former Springbok captain, sent a heartfelt video message to express his support.

“Smit’s message resonated deeply with me, reminding me of the importance of perseverance and unity in the face of adversity. This unexpected gesture highlighted the ability of shared goals to connect people from all walks of life,” said Chad.
