Coaches Estelle Greeff, Gert de Klerk and Pieter Strydom of the Alberton Boxing Club are forced to be reckoned with.
Their skills and abilities make them part of a team performing official duties when the boxers battle in the ring.
They will leave for Limpopo on July 4, with the championships set to run from July 5 to 8.
Greeff will serve as a judge, while coaches De Klerk and Strydom will be a referee and a judge, respectively.
Strydom said they had to be qualified refs and judges to be selected for the championships.
“As part of the process leading up to your qualification, you start as a district referee and judge and proceed to be a provincial ref and judge. Thereafter, you qualify as a national ref and judge. In these championships, they normally select the best ref and judge,” he explained.
In the previous year, De Klerk was a referee in the championships held in Eastern Cape and received a trophy as an acknowledgement. He also served in the South Africa Junior Boxing Championships.
Strydom reiterated that it was a huge opportunity for them and the club.
Interested boxers can join the Alberton Boxing Club, Mondays to Thursdays, from 17:00 to 18:00. For more information, call Strydom on 078 105 5475 or De Klerk on 082 261 1346.
