15 medals in the bag for Alberton Wrestling Club

Alberton Wrestling Club champs, under the watchful eye of coaches Adriaan and Alicia Havenga, did impressively well in the Open Championships held at Gauteng North wrestling hall.

Fourteen wrestlers from Alberton Wrestling Club recently competed at the Free State Open Championships where they brought home 15 medals.

This is a qualifying tournament for provincial colours. About 300 wrestlers entered the tournament from across Gauteng, Free State, Mpumalanga and North West.

Alberton Wrestling Club’s Gunner Hodge, Dietrich Brauns, Pieter Labuschagne, Arrie van Wyk, Nico Potgieter bagged gold medals in their categories, with Katrien Havenga securing two gold medals.

Wian Hamer, Christiaan Havenga, Lara Erasmus and Shilo van Wyk won silver.

They were joined by Nico Potgieter, Jaden Holland who both received bronze medals as well as Arico Fourie who secured two bronze medals.

In fourth place was Wian Jansen van Rensburg.
