Alberton North church enjoys day out in the sun

Novice bowlers from an Alberton North church went head to head in a friendly game at Alberton Bowling Club.

At least 40 novice bowlers from the Apostoliese Geloofsending (AGS), enjoyed a day out in the sun as they went head-to-head in a friendly game.

The day’s event was opened by seniors in the congregation, Dawie Marais and Rita Coetzee, who were also presented with honorary trophies.

This was the congregation’s first-ever annual bowling fundraiser which saw novice bowlers enjoy the Alberton Bowling Club lawn on October 25.

Pastor Johan Smith, who has been a minister for at least five decades, said this was a social event more than anything else which saw congregants enjoying the day.

Willie Lotz from the congregation said: “This is a beginning of an annual bowling fundraiser for the church. There’s always maintenance to be done, especially in smaller communities. Funds are limited so you have to think out of the box to come out with something that will assist in any way.”

He said the event was a trial run and that they are looking at hosting an even bigger one in the following year and possibly involving other communities.
