Exciting changes to Profix Scaffolding Marathon 2020

While the partnership presents exciting opportunities for the City Times, the organisers also have a few aces up their sleeves this year which are exciting for participants.

The City Times is proud to announce it has media partnered with the Benoni Northerns Athletics Club (BNAC) to stage its annual Profix Scaffolding Marathon on April 26.

Race director Julie Dekker explained that the numbers of entries are said to grow with two major changes to the marathon.

“The Profix Scaffolding Marathon now boasts automatic timing by leading sports timing company Championship, as well as a new 48km ultra marathon event.

“With electronic timing, results are available on the same day and will be sent automatically to Comrades Marathon for qualification purposes.

“This is a significant advantage given the timing of the event on the race calendar as one of the last Comrades Marathon qualifiers in Gauteng.

“For runners hoping to qualify or improve their seeding for the Comrades Marathon, the replacement of the 50km ultra marathon event with the 48km distance offers an opportunity to improve their seeding for the Comrades Marathon,” Dekker said.

The Comrades qualification criteria table requires runners to complete a distance of 48km to 50km in less than five hours and 49 minutes.

By participating in a 48km race, runners “score” the time they would have spent running the extra 2km in a 50km event for the same qualification.

With some more new additions to the day, for the first time, BNAC has organised a dedicated kids’ area where children can participate in various activities.

More good news is that Vitality members will automatically earn points for participating in the Profix Scaffolding Marathon.

Members will earn up to 3 000 points for completing the 48km and 42km races, 1 500 points for completing the 21km race, 600 points for the 10km race and 300 points for finishing the 5km events (the 5km is a fun run and is not timed).

Team Vitality Club members can get back 50 per cent of their entry fee.

Runners will need to submit their results to Vitality.

“For over three decades, the Profix Scaffolding Marathon has been the marathon of choice for thousands of runners who keep returning because of the fast and flat route, friendly marshals, well stocked water tables and its perfect timing on the race calendar as one of the last Comrades qualifiers in Gauteng.

“There is an event for all fitness levels, from the ultra marathon for those wanting to challenge themselves or better their seeding for the Comrades marathon in June, to the 5km fun run which continues to attract people of all ages who want to get outside, be active and enjoy the great vibe,” Dekker said.
