Alberton gymnasts leap into clubs’ history books

“Their dedication and hard work has paid off, with a stellar performance by those who competed,” said Cecile Prinsloo (coach).

Gymnasts from all over the country competed at this year’s South African Gym Games, held at UCT in Cape Town.

A team consisting of 31 female artistic gymnasts competed for Alberton Gymnastics Club at the national competition.

Despite the tough competition, they came home with 39 individual and overall medals in total, making history for the club as the most medals received for this national competition in its 40-year legacy.

Year after year the club has become critically acclaimed for their meticulous performances, and has become synonymous with excellence as one of the top clubs in the country.

Once again, the high quality routines this year impressed judges and the audience alike, and several categories were clean sweeps for the club’s gymnasts.

Most notably, one session had 120 participants for a single age group alone, with Alberton gymnasts winning the first and third overall positions by comfortable leads, followed by the remaining two gymnasts achieving sixth and 14th place in the same category.

Gymnastics is the epitome of commitment, passion, hard work and perseverance.

With the countless hours of effort and hard work that goes into preparing for the competition season, it is an excellent achievement for all of these girls to have competed, let alone winning numerous medals and podium positions at the national event.

Under the life-long leadership and commitment of the head coach and owner, Cecile Prinsloo, and her team, these girls have and will continue to inspire the up and coming juniors of the club, adding to the growing legacy of Alberton Gymnastics Club.

“I am extremely proud of our gymnasts and the coaching team this year. Their dedication and hard work has paid off, with a stellar performance by those who competed,” Prinsloo added.
