KEVIN Lerena will put his belt on the line to defend it once again over the weekend.

Fist of Steel boxing tournament will take place on September 21 and is presented by Golden Gloves Promotions and hosted by Emperors Palace. Doors will open at 7pm.

Lerena will take on Sefer Seferi from Switzerland in the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Cruiserweight contest over 12 rounds.

He has been holding the IBO belt since 2017 and is rated number eight by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and 11th by the World Boxing Association (WBA), which is no mean feat.

However, he will have his hands full against Seferi, who has an illustrious career.

Seferi made his professional debut in May 2007 in the cruiserweight division and within the nine-year period he built up a record of 21-0 with 19 knockouts, albeit against low-level opposition.

According to trainer Peter Smith, no fight is a given and that they donā€™t underestimate any boxer.

ā€œWe have bigger things in mind and are looking for unification of the cruiserweight titles, thus we have prepared to our best knowledge for this one.ā€

In the other title fights of the evening, the WBA champion, Jabulani Makhense, will be in action against Marios Matamba, IBF champion for the IBF junior welterweight title over 12 rounds.

Also fighting out of the Smith-camp is Keaton Gomes, who will take on Lebogang Mashitoa in the Gauteng cruiserweight title fight over 10 rounds.

To open the proceedings is Aidan Quin vs Richard Nsamba in the junior middleweight bout over four rounds and Michael Markram in the light heavyweight contest. His opponent will be announced.
