Dinamika’s u-15A rugby team off to Virsekerbeker

It did not take long for Chris Sutton and Peet Jansen van Vuuren's team to score a superb try to open the scoring.

THE u-15A team from Dinamika are in super form going into the Virsekerbeker, the competition in which they ended runner-up a year ago as u-14 players.

They had beaten Hoërskool Alberton in the u-14 final last year and this year qualified for the league directly.

Based on the form they showed at the Golden Lions League finals on July 13 they will prove a handful to any opponents.

They also won the Super League against Ligbron so they were chasing their second trophy.

Namies played against Bastion, who had beaten Hoërskool Alberton with a last gasp penalty in the semi-final on July 6.

The ‘home side’ had beaten Bastion convincingly earlier in the league when the game was cut short but finals end up very often in shock results.

The 8am kick-off was the first game of the day.

It did not take long for Chris Sutton and Peet Jansen van Vuuren’s team to score a superb try to open the scoring through full back Chamile Cupido, who interestingly started the season at scrum half.

When Namies got possession of the ball it was clear that they had come to win. They launched three back line waves of attack from one side of the field to the next before creating a multiple overlap on the left wing where Cupido had joined the line. He went over untouched.

To add to the Bastion woes, centre Grant Coetzee had his kicking boots on and converted from near the touchline and Namies never looked back.

The most impressive part of their performance was that they played with so much freedom.

This comes from their coaching as Sutton and Jansen van Vuuren encourages the players to play with their gut feel rather than with a stringent structure.

After having scored the opening try the second try came as a result of inter play between forwards and backs creating the space on the outside.

The forwards rumbling the ball up down the middle while the backs looking to out flank the defence.

Right wing Breyton Bezuidenhout scored yet another try this season as he crashed over in the corner.

Again the conversion was good and the score was 14-0.

The third try came from a scrum on Bastions 5m line. The scrum half saw acres of space on the blind side and set up Bezuidenhout for his second try in the right hand corner.

Yet again the conversion was good and at 21-0 the game was already starting to slip away from Bastion.

The next try was scored and converted by Coetzee himself.

After starting a back line move in his own half, Coetzee, looked up and saw the defence were all up flat with the full back of Bastion out of position.

Instead of passing he hoofed a ball towards the 22m area. He outstripped the defence, showing good pace, collected the ball on the second bounce and ran in, again untouched to score 28-0.

Namies were still not done. Just before the break they were awarded a penalty.

They set up the line-out, and even I was expecting a back line move.

Maybe Bastion were too because when the forwards decided to drive instead of sending the ball to the back line, it all looked too easy.

Hooker Dewan van Biljon was rewarded with the fifth try. Coetzee missed for once but it still left Namies with a 33-0 advantage.

In the second half Dinamika carried on in the same vain with Cupido scoring his second try after a good backline move.

Coetzee was again successful so the score moved on to 40-0.

Namies carried on piling on the pressure and when Van Biljon and number eight, Zanrich Fourie both scored well-worked tries the score had moved on to 52-0 with Riaan Young adding the one conversion.

The final unconverted try was scored right at the death by flank Joshua Swanepoel with the final score 57-0.

A superb performance. They have improved tremendously as a team this year and were undefeated in competitive games up until this point.

The only blemish was a 19-5 loss to a very strong team from Die Anker.

During that game the defence, especially when the ball was kicked behind the back-line, left a lot to be desired. But with experienced coaches like Sutton, Janse Van Vuuren and Ashley Roodt the problems were corrected.

The team would like to thank Marnus Buitendach and Stefan Kruger from Steve Auto Centre Trucking Division in Alrode for all their valued support.
