Thaba Trails to host mountain bike championships

THE South African National Championships is the blue ribbon event for each cycling discipline and is held each year.

THE South African Mountain Bike XCO National Championships is the blue ribbon event for each cycling discipline and is held each year.

The prestigious event crowns the national champion in their chosen discipline, for their respective gender and age groups.

This event takes place on July 20 from 8am at the scenic, well-established racing venue of Thaba Trails.

The elite and junior category athletes will be able to score valuable UCI points once again.

Eleven categories are accommodated for to participate at the national level, from nippers and sprogs to grandmasters, both men, and women alike.

Alan Hatherly and Mariska Strauss have both kept the SA flag flying high at international level.

Hatherly is the 2018 UCI Mountain Bike u-23 cross-country (XCO) world champion. You can see him in action at Thaba Trails.

He also achieved a bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Strauss, South African Mountain Bike XCO national champion achieved her best UCI World Cup result of her career during round three of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Series.
