Four title bouts on the Battle Stations tournament

Battle Stations on February 24 at Emperors Palace.

SURELY the new boxing season for 2019 will provide excitement for the pugilists as they look ahead to find new faces stepping in the Battle Stations tournament scheduled for the Emperors Palace place on February 24.

The tourney will be presented by the African Ring in conjunction with the Golden Gloves Promotions.

One of these exciting new faces in boxing is Ricardo Malajica, who made his way from the amateur ranks to professional boxing in the latter part of 2018. Hopefully, he will continue with his good performance in 2019.

The no-nonsense Malajika earned two wins on the trot, one on a technical knockout and another on a knockout. He fights out of the Box Office Gymnasium in the South. His trainer is Anton Gilmore, a former professional boxer who in his heydays fought formidable fighters such as Cassius Baloyi.

Malajika will be on the undercard on the first tournament of the year. The boxing tournament is scheduled to start at 1pm and doors open at noon.

Malajika is due to fight Andile Cindy in the junior-bantamweight division over six rounds. Asked about his opponent, Cindy, he said that little is known by him of his opponent, but he does not mind who is in front of him and will take his best boxing to the ring on fight day.

There will be four title fights and a six rounder between Karabo Mokupui and Dowayne Combrink from Alberton while Malajika will take on Cindy.

From the Unleashed Boxing Gymnasium in the South, Clement Kamaga will come up against Marios Matamba, World Boxing Organisation, WBO, African champion, for the International Boxing Federation, IBF, junior-welterweight All Africa title over twelve rounds.

In the World Boxing Association, WBA, Pan Africa junior-welterweight title fight, South African champion Xolani Mcotheli takes on Jabulani Makhense, the Gauteng champion over twelve rounds.

Rowan Campbell, the South African champion, will defend his title against Yanga Phetani in the SA Super middleweight title fight over twelve rounds.
