Alberton Cricket Club flying high

Alberton sides managed three decisive wins. But bad weather caused them a draw on November 25.

Alberton Cricket Club had a successful weekend over November 24 and 25. The club didn’t face a single loss with three teams getting the better of their opponents.

Alberton Cricket Club Premier League side took on Bedfordview in Bedfordview in a match that was interrupted by rain and reduced to 42 overs. Alberton took to the crease first and made 306 for five in their allotted 42 overs. In response, the Bedfordview side could only achieve a score of 246 for 8. The top scorer for the day was Juandre Potgieter, captain of the team, who batted to an impressive 115. Backing up his skipper was Matthew Arnold with innings of 84.

Alberton Premier Reserve also took to the field against Bedfordview at the Lindeque oval. Bedfordview opened the batting and were bowled out for 141 runs. Alberton chased their total down in 34.5 overs with 5 wickets still in hand. A standout on the day was Tyron White who excelled with the ball in hand taking three wickets for only nine runs in his eight overs.

The Alberton Chairmans played against Avion Park in Alberton. Alberton was first to bat and scored 286 runs. The top scorer for the side was Justin Meintjies with 76 runs. Avion was quickly bowled out by Alberton only putting 90 runs on board. Deon Koekemoer took five wickets for 21 runs in seven overs.

The Alberton Directors played Thokoza on the afternoon of November 25. Unfortunately, the match was affected by rain and ended in a draw.

Meanwhile, Alberton Cricket Club has a Colts League that they are using to prepare youngsters for the step up to the senior league. If there are any youngsters between the ages of 14 to 16 who are not playing club cricket and would like to come down to the Alberton Cricket Club on Tuesdays and Thursday from 4pm to speak to Davian Finnis, they are welcome to do so.
