Women’s Day, and women in sport

Woman's day at Anton Gilmore's Box Office.

IN keeping with the celebration of Woman’s Day, Fight with Insight will host an event that will show that ladies are doing it for themselves at Anton Gilmore’s Box Office gymnasium.

Since a lot of women are now entering and doing well in formerly male-dominated sports like rugby, MMA and boxing, the club will play host to boxing sessions and safety for the modern age woman.

The event starts at 9am once the ladies and children from Fight with Insight arrive from Hillbrow. Among those ladies are a few entrepreneurs such as Jennifer Matibe, who was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year award for her fashion accessories business. Owner/trainer at Box Office, Anton Gilmore, will conduct the two-hour box-a-robics session with aerobics and legwork. Natasha Zietsman from Sweat Box gymnasium will take the ladies through a 30-minute bag routine, showing her skills as a boxing coach. She will deliver instructions on the art of slipping, rolling and stepping.

Next is Luke Lamprecht, coach at Fight with Insight, who will do his version of conditioning. Talia-Jade Magnes will wrap up the two-hour session with half-hour yoga and stretching class.

On the defence part, Sifu Anthony Jardim will give a lesson on the best practices for keeping safe in all situations. Jardim is a master in his field with an impressive list of achievements.

Special guest for the day will be Shereen Hunter, CEO of the Hunter Group, and Promoter of the Year award winner at the Boxing South African awards ceremony. She will talk on a woman’s place in boxing and the world of today and tomorrow. What an honour to host this lady.

Booking is essential for this event and there is no entrance fee, but we do ask you to bring a donation of boxing gear, training equipment or ladies orientated sports item.
