Alberton Schools take part in MTB League

The league is a schools-based league aimed at qualifying high schools for an annual inter-school final, therefore great focus is placed on high school entries and team entries.

THE first Spur Schools MTB League event of the season took place on May 12 at Phoenix High School in Vereeniging.

The league is a schools-based league aimed at qualifying high schools for an annual inter-school final, therefore great focus is placed on high school entries and team entries.

Over 500 eager riders attended and the race consisted of 4.2km laps with the sub-juniors starting with three laps and the junior men finishing off with five laps. The groups were sub-divided into ages, namely the sub-junior boys, the sub-junior girls, youth 15 girls, youth 16 girls, junior women, youth 15 boys, youth 16 boys and junior men.

Both Hoërskool Dinamika and Alberton High entered a team this year. Alberton’s team placed very well in their respective groups with times ranging from 53 minutes to 60 minutes.

Marizaan Wessels, a Grade Eight learner at Dinamika, took third place in the sub-junior girls event.

The day was enjoyed by all who took part and is a sign of great things to come. Congratulations to all learners who took part.
